Lot 93

A NEPALESE GILT-BRONZE SEATED FIGURE OF NAMASANGITI, MID-LATE 19TH CENTURY/EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Namasangiti is a deity especially popular in the Kathmandu Valley and is an iconographic form of Manjusri - the deity who brings Wisdom. Namasangiti is usually shown with two of her arms clasped above her head and has other arms in differing gestures. I suspect that this image is one of series which, taken together, represent the complete deity.
The image is very well made and has suffered little over the last approximately 125 years. The image is assured in its posture and the cast is very crisp. The image's gilding is still largely intact and the chased detailing on the robes is extremely fine.
