Lot 155

18CT GOLD AND DIAMOND RING
Centring a claw-set old cushion-cut diamond weighing 1.48 carats, flanked by claw-set old European-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 1.00 carat, decorated between with four further old European-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 0.04 carats, with filigree details to underbezel, size M, gross weight approximately 5.1 grams.
The central diamond exhibits the rare gemmological phenomenon of a diamond crystal enclosed within the host diamond. Such formations occur when a smaller crystal becomes encapsulated during the growth process under extreme pressure and temperature conditions in the earth's mantle. This uncommon feature provides valuable insight into the complex geological conditions under which diamonds form.
