A VICTORIAN PARCEL-GILT STERLING SILVER WINE JUG
John, Edward, Walter, & John Barnard (Barnard & Sons Ltd), London, 1872

Baluster-shaped with a high loop handle on a circular foot, the body decorated with bright-cut flowers and foliage within pointed lappets rising from the foot, the handle, mouth and its Toft's Patent weighted cover, lappets, and foot all gilt contrasting with the matte silver ground, engraved below the spout 'Henry Montgomery MacNeill Hamilton / from his Godmother / Mrs Swinfen Brown / 25th September 1872', the Barnard mark in the group beneath the spout overstruck with that of Elkington & Co. (leaving the Barnard mark to the underside of the foot undisturbed)
