Lot 176

A LARGE LOUIS XIV SIGNED AUBUSSON VERDURE TAPESTRY
Late 17th–early 18th century

Depicting deer and cranes in a wooded landscape with a town and Classical ruins beyond, retaining the original floral and foliate border woven at the centre of the lower edge '[?]·C·M·R·D·AUBUSSON'
288cm high, 421cm wide (approximately)

Estimate $6,000 - $9,000

Sold for $18,000

Generally in good condition consistent with age and type, with typical scattered slight pulls, small and inconspicuous old repairs within the design, and variations in colour.

Differences of colour in the plain outermost part of border (the original colour of which is blue) indicate old replacement sections on this.

The reverse, which has not been backed with a support, has various old patches to reinforce the areas of the work.
