A RARE CHINESE YELLOW JADE OX, LATE SHANG DYNASTY, CIRCA 1250 - 1046.
The thick yellow jade carved in the form of a recumbent ox with the features of the face and limbs delineated in grooved details, the yellow stone with areas of russet inclusions.

Compare a greyish-white jade ox-shaped ornament of similar form, Shang dynasty, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Jadeware (I), p.82, pl.69.
