A GEORGE III MUSICAL BRACKET CLOCK
EARDLEY NORTON, LONDON, CIRCA 1785

The case of break arch form, surmounted by a square gilt dressed platform with a swag decorated cupola, finished with a gilt finial, similar finials on the corner of the dome platform and on corners of the case. The case mounted with female and floral caryatids to each corner. The door sides of serpentine form with rectangular brass bound glass side panels, each surmounted by brass carrying handle. The moulded base standing on acanthus scroll feet. The break arch dial with silvered chapter ring, and with Roman and Arabic numerals. Two smaller dials above, one indicating the six tunes, the other chime/not chime. The painted arch depicting an 18th century social setting with two musicians playing instruments, three observing and one person dancing a jig

Discolouration to wooden case in places. signs of age to brass mounts. red velvet replaced. turned holes to each side of clock visible. back door and hinges replaced. Music and automata not in working order, not recently serviced or timed. Will require full service. Chapter rings and dials re-silvered. Centre of dial repainted.
