A JAPANESE HORN AND SHIBAYAMA STYLE VASE
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Of tapered form and sealed with on the underside with clear glass, an unusual horn vessel featuring Shibayama style inlay and lacquer work. Spring blossom, sprays of flowers and cranes in Takamaki-e (High Relief lacquer) and Red crested cranes and flowers in inlaid shell and corals. Unsigned.
29cm high, 11cm diameter

Many losses to the mother of pearl and lacquer inlay. The losses repaired with paint. The base of glass possibly a replacement.
