In good condition with no visible signs of repair, a long fissure in the stone runs through one side across the base (approx. 25cm long) this appears to be naturally inherent in the stone.

Known as a connoisseur of archaic jades the Qianlong emperor had many pieces in the Imperial Collections. This heavy bowl is exceptional for the beauty of its colour, and the effects of the interplay of various inclusions in the stone. Porcelains created with the effect of simulating natural phenomena were particularly popular during the Qianlong reign, and it is possible that this bowl was commissioned to simulate the much admired qualities of dreamstone.
