Each of slender ovoid form, inscribed beneath the cover 'Offert par le duc de Richelieu a Madame de Comporn' and painted with a central cartouche depicting courting lovers in a garden setting, with an opposing landscape scene, the whole richly decorated with raised gilt highlights and floral swags on a Bleu du Roi ground, flanked by foliate cast gilt brass handles, beneath a domed cover with a cone finial, raised on a stepped socle with a chamfered square gilt brass foot, underglaze blue factory mark beneath cover, gilt factory mark beneath the foot, 105 cm high.
Provenance: Leonard Joel, Normanhurst - Estate of the Late Henry F. Young, 19th November 1929, lot 285.
1929-1961 - collection of the late Charles Titchener then by family descent.
