A LATE 19TH CENTURY PATINATED BRONZE FIGURE OF DUKE GIULIANO DE MEDICI (1453-1478)
After the original by Michelangelo, stamped pastille Reduction Mecanique, A. Collas Brevete
The seated figure dressed in full armour with his head averted, a club resting on his lap, stamped pastille to the reverse, 36 cm high.

History: the present work is a reduction of the larger original, which was executed in marble by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) and is one of three statues adorning the tomb of Giuliano de Medici, Duke of Nemours, in the Medici Chapel in Florence. The reduction was cast in seven different sizes.
