A Chinese bronze ding with taotie design and rosewood cover and base
Late Qing dynasty, 19th century

The tripod low sided circular vessel with twin raised handles to each side displays a repeated series of taotie motifs in low relief to the exterior, together with a later rosewood pierced cover with carved hardstone finial and a tripod base with stretcher support, 23 (diameter) x 42.5 cm total height.

Note: A ding is an ancient Chinese vessel used for cooking, storage and ritual offerings.
