An ebonised tantalus with cut crystal decanters
Circa 1865

The cubic sarcophagus shaped lidded box with a Sheffield plate crown and lion paw finial above inscribed SALUTEM SOLA VIRTUTE (salvation by virtue alone), the lid opening to reveal a fitted interior containing twin decanters each engraved Ascot Cup Day 1865 and with General Peel and Ely respectively, 35cm high.
