Isaac Dyer, drug store owner, was born in Skowhegan, Maine, on 1 November, 1820. He served with the local militia during the 1830s and joined the 1st Maine Inf. on 19 December, 1861 as a Lt. Col. He was promoted to Col. in February, 1862 and took command of the regiment at the Battle of Sabine Cross Roads and Pleasant Hills, LA. in 1864. He served with Sheridan and Grant in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign and assisted with the Freedman Bureau. He was discharged on 13 March, 1865 and appointed Brevet Brig. General for meritous service during the war.
After the war he returned to his drug store and was appointed State Senator in 1867. He retired in 1880, but in 1900, aged 80 he was made Skowhegan Postmaster by President T. Roosevelt. He retired in 1912 and died on 5 March, 1913 aged 93 years.
