circa 1820s, one with tortoiseshell handle and blade marked 'Blackwell'; the other with mother of pearl handle, in brown leather covered card slipcase; and a U.S. brass and steel fleam set including three blades; glass inkwell with screw down brass top and bone pen with gold washed nib; with vendors descriptive label and research material on Marcy including a biography and copies of his army and pension files (a lot)

Fleams were sharp bladed bloodletting instruments used by surgeons in numerous medical procedures.

Henry Orlando Marcy was 1st Lt. and Asst. Surgeon with the 43rd Regt. Mass. Inf from 5 May, 1863 to 30 July 1863. He was Maj. Surgeon of 1st North Carolina Coloured Troops from 26 November, 1863 until his discharge on 3 June, 1865.

After the war Marcy became an eminent doctor and surgeon at Cambridge, Mass. He died on 1 Jan, 1924 aged 94 years.
