OTHER NOTES
This cdv shows Sha-kpe shortly before his execution. He had boasted of killing 13 women and children during the massacre of 1862. The Dakota were defeated by Minnesota Territorial troops that summer and Little Six and several other leaders fled to Canada. In January, 1864, Little Six and Medicine Bottle were controversially kidnapped by British soldiers, and brought back across the border to the U.S. to be tried for their crimes. The two Dakota Chiefs were condemned to death and hanged together at Fort Snelling on November 11, 1865.
