large brown leather book, probably converted from a photograph or picture album, with handwritten Regimental and Company orders from 23 September, 1864 to 12 June, 1865, some loose pages; a brass travelling lamp, base stamped 'V130'; and a carte de visite of Almy, marked to verso 'Knowles & Hilman...New Bedford, Mass.' with 2 cent tax stamp and Almy's name inscribed twice in pencil; pewter flask with screw on lid; with research material on Almy including a biography and copies of his army files (a lot)

OTHER NOTES
Allen Almy, blacksmith, was born in Rhode Island in 1833. He was a married with children when he joined Co. 'D' 23rd Mass. Inf. as a Corporal on 18 September, 1861. Almy was on detached service on the schooner 'Skirmisher' from November, 1861 to March, 1862. After being wounded in 1862 he was promoted to Sgt. on 23 April, 1863. He discharged to accept a commission as 2nd Lt. of Co 'E' 58 Mass. Inf on 2 March, 1864. Allen was wounded twice again in May, 1864 at Spotsylvania, V.A. and Cold Harbour, V.A. in June, 1864. He was appointed 1st Lt. on 18 June, 1864 and then Capt. Co. 'H' on 8 August, 1864. Allen was discharged on 14 July, 1865 and then served as a 2nd and 1st Lt. in the 16th Inf. of the Regular Army from 1866-1870. He received a pension for his wounds and died on 6 February, 1899, aged 66.
