PROVENANCE
This stereo daguerreotype was obtained in Hobart, Tasmania in the early 1990s.
OTHER NOTES
Antoine Claudet (1797-1867), noted 19th century photographer, was the pupil of Louis Daguerre (daguerreotype inventor) and improved the sensitizing process by using chlorine in addition to bromine, thus gaining greater rapidity of action, he also invented the red dark-room light, the idea of using painted backdrops is also attributed to him.
