title inscribed lower left 23 x 33.5cm This work draws close parallels to two other works by John Black Henderson, 'River Near Yanakie' and 'Bad Saddle at Wilson's Promontory' located at Ballarat Regional Gallery and Latrobe Regional Gallery respectively.
Based on these other works, it is believed that the figures in Lot 64 are from the Ferdinand Von Mueller party which Henderson was a part of. The work depicts the party in transit from Philip Island to Wilson's Promontory. It is believed that Henderson was courting Mueller's sister at this time.
This work has substantial historical significance.
