the embroidery in Peking knot and satin stitch, finely designed with seasonal flowers in white, sea-blue and sky-blue florals including peonies and chrysanthemum in stylised form to the body, the broad sleeve cuffs of pale gold silk, embroidered with a floral pattern in colourful design the lower section of the robe depicts a stormy sea with the imperial peonies scattered throughout, the border is black with gold threaded trim through a scrolling floral and foliate embroidered band with butterflies, the symbol of joy and happiness in marriage, three hollow repousse gilt buttons attached to the front of the robe, 114cm high

Catalogue Note: Textiles with Peking knot stitch are sought after, as it was regarded as a very time consuming and difficult embroidery technique.
