AN INTERESTING LATE 16TH CENTURY ENGLISH CARVED OAK ALTER-BACK, CIRCA 1580-1600
Centrally carved with armourial coat of arms and quarterings for the families Reresby and Swift. The central shield carved within acorn moulded laurel with inscription "Blessed Are They The Scripture Doth Say That Hearest Worde Of God A Kepes Talwaye" . The central shield depicting the marriage of Lionel Reresby of Thribergh to Ann, elder daughter of Robert Swift of Rotherham, 241.5cm width x 8cm depth x 83cm high.
