A BRONZE FIGURE OF THE GREEN TARA, PALA REVIVAL STYLE
17TH/18TH CENTURY
of typical style, seated on a double lotus throne in the half-lotus position, her right leg extended forward symbolising her readiness to leap in to action to save others, with richly gilded serene face, wearing a high foliate diadem, floral arm-bands, and necklaces. Sealed with an incised double-vajra base. The back of the figure, with traces of blue and red pigment to the hair and crown, 21.5cm high
Catalogue Note: The Tara associated with Green, referring to her ability to transform the green poison of envy into the positive energy of wisdom.
Provenance: Purchased more than thirty years ago from a Japanese friend who had travelled to Manchuria, thence passed on by descent to the grandson and current owner.
