Lot 232

A MINIATURE THEODOLITE
2 inch plain theodolite with orientation telescope, the theodolite and the stand separate and can be housed in two metal travelling cases, one inscribed Dr F.J Clendinnen. The telescopes have vertical stadia and are designed to be seen over and through simultaneously, as this ensures accurate readings to be taken.
Catalogue note: The miniature Theodolite was invented by, and engineered in solid nickel on behalf of noted Australian Radiologist, Dr F.J Clendinnen (1860-1913). Being Victoria's first medical Radiologist, he used radium for treatment as well as x-ray diagnosis. In 1896 he was appointed the first "honorary skiagraphist" to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Eye and Ear Hospital.
