Provenance: The owner's maternal grandfather acquired the telescope by trade in the 1880's, while working in the countryside and goldfields areas, supplying various necessities
Catalogue note: T.F. Wiesner, an Astronomical, Mathematical, Optical, Surveying, and Philosophical Instrument Maker, traded from 334 Georges St, Sydney. Completing his apprenticeship in the 1860s, by the 1880s the spread of settlement had gained Wiesner a large share of the market for the demand in surveying and drafting instruments, due to the development of roads and railways, and the construction of buildings and bridges.

Overall very heavy wear and areas of tarnishing; dings and dents to tube in places; lense appears to work - items can be viewed clearly through the lense; focusing wheel also appears to work and smoothly moves the eye piece in and out of the main body
