SILVER CUP HAWAII 1853 TOBACCO AWARD AND SILVER TOBACCO BOX, OF QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIAN INTEREST, AMERICAN TOBACCO AND AUSTRALIAN AGRICULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
Of campana form, American silver made by S.T.Crosby engraved with dedication and inscription detailed below. Together with a T.G.S Townsville or Toowoomba Grammar School silver trophy snuff box dedicated as follows;
120 yards, 21.9.04, T.G.S Sports, Old Boys Race, Won by Jack Walker
Provenance: These cups were awarded in the 1850s by the Royal Hawaiian Agricultural Society as a prize in various growing categories. This cup was awarded to Arch Archer by the R.H.A Society for the best Tobacco Then inscribed verso;
'Presented to Julia Alicia Archer by her Uncle Archie 29th July 1858' The Archer family was from a famous early pastoral family in Queensland. The snuff box comes from the same estate and presented by direct descent.
