A RARE VICTORIAN SILVER MOUNTED NOVELTY CLARET JUG IN THE FORM OF A SEAL
ALEXANDER CRICHTON / LONDON / 1882
naturalistically modelled in the form of a seal, the head with glass eyes, the head hinges and forms the spout, with a silver scroll handle, flippers and tail, the latter inscribed ' PRESENTED TO / MAJOR GENERAL GRIMWADE / in appreciation by the members of the / FRANKSTON BOWLING CLUB / 1937' , 15cm high

Silver mounts clearly hallmarked to the cover, the collar beneath the cover, the silver strap around the body and the silver collar at the tip of the tail (this section is also stamped with a Victorian registration lozenge)
Surface scratches to the gilt wahs inside the collar of the spout
Small dent to the top left side of the silver handle
Glass body in good order, free from chips and cracks, although with some minor scratches in places
Silver mounts good overall, with tarnishing and surface scratches consistent with age
Presentation inscription clear
