The winder of the hat expander is functioning with appropriate tension. Cosmetically, it displays minor scuffs and scratches from wear and use, and some losses to underside near the middle division. One side has a thumbnail sized chip, the other has a more substantial loss; a triangular chunk just under an inch long is missing, but this isn't likely to affect the function of the piece. There is one small split running along the grain on the top of that side, but it appears unlikely to connect and compromise the structure. Small loss to corner on one of the ends. Bears imprint of number 7 on underside.
