Celestial globe:
Bearing the cartouche- A NEW CELESTIAL GLOBE, whereon the stars are laid down form the accurate observations of the best astronomers, by J & W Newton, 1818.
Mahogany frame in good condition, no visible repairs, compressions visible in places consistent with age and use. Stamped ENGLAND to underside of frame.
The brass meridian circle tarnished in places, however the overall condition is good.
The horizon ring is foxed overall and stained in places. Losses visible to border overall.
The globe has multiple old repairs and overpainting visible to the central circumference of the globe. A repair is also visible to the top where the brass brass meridian circle is secured to the globe. A compression along with overpainted is visible.
Wear and losses overall.
Terrestrial globe:
Bearing the cartouche- NEWTON'S new and improved TERRESTRIAL GLOBE, accurately delineated from the observations of the most esteemed NAVIGATORS and TRAVELLERS, to the present time, MANUFACTURED BY J & W NEWTON, 66 Chaucery lane. London, published 1st July 1818, with additions to 1823.
Mahogany frame in generally good condition, compressions visible in places consistent with age and use. Two repairs visible to verso of wooden horizon ring. Stamped ENGLAND to underside of frame.
The brass meridian circle tarnished in places, however the overall condition is good.
The horizon ring is foxed overall and stained in places. Losses visible to border overall, and two repairs to the frame are visible.
The globe has a handful of small repairs and overpainting visible in the following places: the North Pacific Ocean, South Pacific Ocean, Western Atlantic Ocean (near the West Indies all the way to Cape Verd Isles), beneath the Gulf of Guinea, The Arabian Sea (beneath Oman), and in the Indian Ocean.
A repair with overpainting is also visible to the top where the brass meridian circle is joined.
