Painted to the exterior with a continuous celebrated scene depicting the young boy Jia Chang facing a rooster, and stamping his left foot to call the chickens, set against jagged rockwork and blossoming peonies issuing from leafy stems, the hen and the four chicks nearby, on the reverse an inscription in black enamel of an imperial poem by the Qianlong Emperor acknowledging the emulation of earlier chicken cups, the poem dated to the bingshen year (1776) and followed by two iron-red seals reading 'qian' and 'long', the base with underglaze blue Qianlong seal mark, 11.4cm diameter, with pierced wooden stands (2)
