A RARE CHINESE SILK ROBE FOR EMPRESS DOWAGER CIXI, QING DYNASTY (1644-1911), EARLY GUANGXU PERIOD (1875-1908)
The very beautiful robe embroidered on a chestnut silk with peonies in green, lilac and ice blue, decorated with auspicious emblems for good fortune and longevity, and exquisitely edged with golden thread. A rare pleated hem, indicates an Imperial winter robe, presented in a perspex case measuring 227 width x 20 depth x 149cm height

In good condition with slight discolouration in a vertcal line near each fcuff consistent with long-term storage, some slight puckering to chesnut silk to mid-lower sections as visible in photographs, very minor stains to silk and loose threads consistent with age, the saturation of lilac slightly faded in comparison to interior panel (pictured), gold thread and emboridery in very good condition, Conservation Treatment, May-July, 2000
