Estimate $3,000 - $5,000
Private collection, Melbourne
Dora Wilson worked predominantly from her picturesque studio at Temple Court in Collins Street, Melbourne. It served not only as her artistic home, but also as a meeting place for the "Waddy" - an art group who later exhibited as "The Twelve Melbourne Painters" in the mid 1910's including fellow women artists Jessie Traill, Norah Gurdon, and Janet Cumbrae-Stewart.
By the 1920's, Dora had found her niche, focusing on various street scenes which have become synonymous with her oeuvre. In the later 1920's, Dora was able to extend this focus to international landmarks with a commission from Sir Baldwin Spencer allowing her to travel and work abroad in Europe for two and a half years.
