June Hobart was an exponent of the Max Meldrum School, and studied painting under Archie and Amalie Colquhoun with whom she was also close friends.

A long-standing member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society, and the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, June was thoroughly active in the Melbourne art world and a devoted advocate of Meldrum's artistic principles.
