"In Search of Subjects to Paint: Paradise, These Artists Say of Greece", The Canberra Times, 4 March 1965, p. 15
"On their far-ranging tours painting ruins and relics, they were stuck in isolated villages for days on end with no technical know-how and a defunct combi-van, towed by camels, travelled in cattle trucks, and longed for a man with a jeep the whole way through Asia Minor. Despite, or perhaps because of such misadventures, the pair are more than ready for their third trip, nearly four years after the last one in 1961.
Both women say their travels have had a great effect on their work."
In 1961 Guelda Pyke and Dorothy Braund left Melbourne for a trip to Greece, one of several overseas trips the two would take together throughout their artistic careers.
They travelled on the freighter Chadraka, taking a Kombi van on board. Guelda and Dorothy used this to travel from Karachi, through Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. Both Dorothy and Guelda produced several artworks drawn from their experiences on this trip together, both of which can be seen here in this auction.
