CORNELIUS SAUNDERS & FRANCIS SHEPHERD / CHESTER / CIRCA 1906
Ovoid in form flanked by two handles, raised on a turned wooden pedestal base mounted with a presentation plaque bearing the initials M.A.N. 1909. Total height 12cm, total width 6cm. Approximately 24 gms silver.
Notes: Presented to Australian captain Monty Noble by Lady Darnley, one of the ladies who presented the original Ashes urn to English captain Ivo Bligh in 1882-83. One of only three known remaining urns in private hands (two of which are on loan to the Melbourne Cricket Club Museum.) Provenance: Elizabeth Noble, granddaughter of Monty Noble.

The trophy:
minor surface scratches visible, both handles compressed, dents to circular foot. Compressions to internal rim of lid, consistent with age and use.
The base:
wear to ebonised finish consistent with physical contact. Very minor compression to silver plaque,surface scratches overall. Cloth edge to base, worn and ripped in places
