rounded rectangular in form with a pierced and beaded gallery edge, and raised on four bun feet. The centre bearing the inscription "PRESENTED TO SIR WILLIAM & LADY CLARKE, as a tribute of friendship & esteem, BY THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS IN AUSTRALIA 1882-1883" & with engraved facsimile signatures of eight English cricketers - Ivo Bligh, E.F.S.Tyldesley, C.F.M.Leslie, George Vernon, Charles Studd, George Studd, Walter Read & Allan Steel. Approximately 1494gms silver, 5cm high, 37cm wide, 28.5cm deep
Notes: Sir William Clarke was President of the Melbourne Cricket Club. Lady Clarke & her companion Florence Morphy were 2 of the ladies who presented Ivo Bligh with the original Ashes urn. In 1884 Ivo Bligh returned to Australia and married Florence Morphy. After the death of his brother they became Lord & Lady Darnley.
