She married 12 years later in 1952, receiving this engangement ring from her fiancee.
She and her husband were not blessed with children, and in her will she left the ruby ring to her nephew Martin Pound who was the grandson of the famous Admiral Dudley Pound who was known as 'Churchill's Anchor' as he was so steadfast and reliable.
The grandson, Martin Pound, also served in the Royal Navy and later on board the Queen's Royal Yacht, Britannia. He is now a champion yachtsman and mountain climber. His yacht 'Moby J' won Britain's famous Three Peak's Race in 2017.
