A RARE 19TH CENTURY HARD STONE & SILVER GILT PIERCED BOX, SET WITH ROSE CUT DIAMONDS, PINK SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES. Containing approximately 120 rose cut diamonds of various sizes, 140 faceted rubies and pink sapphires in a variety of sizes, cuts and shades. 106 small cabochon pink sapphires that are closely set as an edging to the lid. The top of the box is made form Bowenite or similar stone, surmounted with a pierced white jade panel. The sides are crafted from white jade. The base of the box and the four bun feet are fashioned from polished white marble. 9cm high, 12.5cm long, 9cm deep. Provenance: from the collection of the Nizam of Hyderabad, India.
