EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The largest framed group comprising of twelve lacquered and gilt pages, each page bearing six lines of Pali text in deep brown lacquer. One other framed group of three similar lacquer pages, and the last with gilt lacquer end pages and book covers. Kammavaca consisted of rules and instructions for new monks entering monastic life, and were often commissioned by the parents of the young monks as a gift for presentation to the monastery.
The largest 101cm high, 125cm wide. The other two framed groups 103cm high and 66cm wide.
Estimate $600 - $800
Wear to the lacquer pages and end panels from normal use, some very minor scratches to the gilt frames.
