JIZHOU AND JIAN, SONG DYNASTY
The Jizhou kiln teabowl of conical form, with three dark papercut decorated roundels to the cavetto against a hare's fur ground, the exterior with tortoiseshell glaze. The two Jian teabowls (one larger) of conical form with flaring everted rims, with blueish hare's fur effect against a deep black ground, running to an unglazed purplish-red rim.
VIEW IN MELBOURNE
The Jizhou teabowl 6cm high, 11cm diameter. The larger Jian 5cm high, 12.5cm diameter. The smaller Jian bowl 4cm high, 10cm diameter.
Estimate $800 - $1,200
The Jizhou bowl broken into pieces with extensive repairs and repainting. The Jian teabowls with no apparent faults, apart from the glaze sticks where it stuck to the sagger on the edge of the footrim.
