A NEPALESE GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF CHATURBUJA AVALOKITESHVARA
16TH CENTURY

The high copper-content gilt bronze four-armed figure of Avalokiteshvara is seated in padmasana on a double lotus base, with two hands joined in anjali mudra, the other two in vitarka mudra, with a lotus flower emanating from the left hand, the figure crowned and elaborately jewelled with a pearl, turquoise and coloured glass.

18cm high, 12.5cm wide.

Numerous old dents to the lotus base, dents and wear to the crown and extremeties of the figure, rubbing to the gilding at the high points, encrustation of old smokey patina, losses to jewelling.
