A SET OF TIBETAN COPPER AND SILVER REPOUSSE BOOK COVERS
19TH CENTURY

The book covers of painted wood with gilt decoration of lamas with yakshas to the inner surface. Encased in copper repousse depicting the eight precious Buddhists emblems amoungst scrolling foliage, decorated centrally to the front with a buddha within a temple to the reverse with a cintamani, further embellished with turquoise and rock crystal cabochons.

Both of the covers have metal work in good condition apart from some minor dents. Metal has oxidised. Both of the inside covers cracked to the low of centre. The inner painted wooden decoration with some minor wear and losses from general use.
