A JAPANESE NEGORO LOWLINE CIRCULAR TABLE
MEIJI PERIOD 19TH CENTURY

Classic Negoro patina of worn red and black with additional floral carvings to side facets and double scrolled legs. Negoro lacquer is usually associated with the Buddhist temple in Negoro where the wares are first thought to have originated. They were most popular in the 15th century and remain today one of the most highly regarded forms of lacquer in Japan, particularly prized for use in the tea ceremony.
