A CHINESE HUANGHUALI BULLION CHEST
16TH/17TH CENTURY

The front composed of multiple rectangular panels, the three lower panels with carved decoration of lotus buds and prunus flowers. With original iron hardware. The wood of rich colour and patina.

Damage to the patina on all four lowest sections of the legs through moisture. Old worm damage to a small portion of sapwood to the inner surface of a frame piece of the chest lid. Shrinkage to the top panel of the lid. Scratches, fading, some old small burn marks and chips to the chest, most significantly to the lid. Very old oxidation to the iron hardware latch. Loosening to some of the joins. Otherwise no further visible faults or damage.
