Lot 434
19TH CENTURY
Depicting a central Buddha seated in padmasana on a raised plinth, flanked by two standing Bodhisattvas, with arhats to the rear. Painted in polychrome mineral pigments on paper.
VIEW IN MELBOURNE
115cm high, 90cm wide
Estimate $1,200 - $1,500
Creases and folds to the painting throughout, one area to the lower left hand side with a tear to the painting. Wear and losses to the pigment decoration in multiple places throughout, but most significantly to the faces of the figures at the top left, but also to part of the Bodhisattva at the left hand side, and also to the Buddha's face to a smaller extent. The entire work is somewhat darkened through ageing or from smoke from lamps. Some evidence of small areas of old restoration/repainting in various places on the work.
