A FRAMED JAPANESE WORK ON SILK, CRANE THEME
EDO PERIOD, EARLY 19TH CENTURY

Of vertical form, a realistic interpretation of Two Red-crested cranes (tancho tsuru) in elegant, natural poses and stances. Signed (unread). The crane has been an important symbolic element in Japanese art and culture since ancient times. The stately grace and dignity of the bird, combined with the pure whiteness of the plumage has linked them with the superior qualities of the Daoist Immortals.
