Settling in Melbourne in 1882, Jane Price was an artist, poet and governess. An advocate of painting plein air, she painted with the artists of the Heidelberg School, sharing a studio with Jane Sutherland and becoming close friends with Tom Roberts and Frederick McCubbin. Around the time of the First World War, Jane returned to Melbourne and settled in Diamond Creek, where she began to depict works of Australian flora. Several of these, depicting various gum blossoms were later commercially reproduced as post cards.
