Gwyn Hanssen Pigott created a new language for ceramics through her famous still-life groupings of pots, some extended into larger assemblies of pieces: bowls, bottles, beakers, jugs and cups displayed in carefully orchestrated arrangements. They were sculptural artworks, but used the most basic language of pottery forms, of everyday objects. Throughout her career, Gwyn felt she had not been given proper recognition by the art establishment, as she existed between the realms of pottery and painting not associating herself or her practice with either.
