The 1950's in Australia brought forth a new generation of artists, including John Olsen, Robert Klippel, and Yvonne Audette, whose work represents the first significant movement of abstract art in Australia. In her early 20's, Yvonne travelled to New York where she was immersed in the American abstract expressionists of the time such as Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning. Her time here proved to be enormously influential, and shaped her remarkable six-decade career. Recognition may have come slowly but was ultimately undeniable and Audette is now enjoying renewed and continuing appreciation.
