Private collection, Melbourne
After attending the National Gallery School, with private lessons from M. J. McNally, Elma Roach departed for London and Paris. Years abroad caused Elma's oeuvre to become more modern. In fact, in a 1939 issue of Art and Australia, Basil Burdett noted that Elma had brought back an aspect of European painting unfamiliar to the Australian eye.
