Lot 32

CHARLES BLACKMAN (1928-2018)
Madonna c.1982
oil and ceramic on board
signed lower right: BLACKMAN
ceramicist's signature lower left
85.5 x 69.5cm

Estimate $15,000 - $20,000

Unsold

Ceramic is in very good condition with no evidence of cracking or losses.

There is black pigment apparent on the far lower left corner beyond the signature. This pigment is as two black lines (the smaller 1cm, the larger 1.5cm), likely the same pigment as the signature in the lower left and so appears to be from the time of creation.
There is what appears to be a foreign substance (possibly a varnish due to its reflective nature) visible on the upper-centre of the work (in the margin, beyond the ceramic image). This varnish is not sighted elsewhere on the work, therefore it may be unintended.
There are three pin-sized black dots in the upper edge. These are minor, and only visible upon close inspection. There is a seperate pin-sized surface mark upper left edge - cause unknown.
Work is well framed.
