YAMAZAKI KOYO (1890-1979), SHOWA PERIOD (1926-1989), CIRCA 1950
The irregular ovoid stoneware vase with a covered in a rasberry copper red glaze, with a pronounced flowing flambé effect. Impressed two-character 'Koyo' mark to the base.
14.5cm high, 13.5cm diameter

A firing crack to the base. A small glaze flake to one side near the footrim.

Koyo Yamazaki was a student of famous Kyoto potter Rokubei VI. He exhibited often at the prestigious Nitten and received multiple awards in that and other competitions. His work is held in the Japanese Imperial Collection, and in Bern Museum of Art, Switzerland and the Museum of Modern Art, Boston.
